University of California, Riverside

Comparative Literature and Languages

About

Our department is a vibrant and exciting site for the study of comparative literature. We teach, read, and write about translation and multilingualism; problems of sovereignty and transnational identities; literary institutions and their histories; the new media and inherited idioms; philosophical argument and lyric poetry; popular struggles and quotidian practices; the turn to religion and legacies of Enlightenment; and colonial legacies in a globalizing world. We remain attentive to language and idiom while we study texts, institutions, histories, and forms as they teach us about the world we live in.
